On April 20, three people died and some 90 people were rescued from a sinking wooden boat off the Greek Island of Rhodes. The rescue occurred a day after hundreds were reported drowned on a boat that was crossing the Mediterranean from Libya. A third deadly wreck of a boat en route for Italy from Libya was believed to have killed 400 migrants just a week before. European politicians are facing criticism that they aren't helping those in need in order to appeal to anti-immigration sectors of their electorates.
