It happened in Monroe County shortly before 8:00 this morning.

They say the tractor trailer veered off the road, crossed a grass median and slammed into a car driven by 21-year-old Paul Miller of Scranton.

The van then hit the trailer.

Miller was killed in the crash.

A number of other people were flown to area hospitals. The driver and passenger in the van were critically injured. Four other people are hospitalized in stable condition. Six others sustained minor injuries.

The truck driver was not hurt.

The southbound lanes of Route 33 were closed for about five hours.

The northbound lanes reopened about seven hours after the crash.
