Deer goes window shopping at Pocono paint store

VIDEO: Deer smashes through window

MT. POCONO, Pa. - You've heard the saying, "like a bull in a china shop," but how about a deer in a paint store?

It was the start of a normal Thursday morning in early June at Gleco Paints and Wall coverings in Mt. Pocono.

"I was standing out front with a retail customer explaining something to him,” said Steve Gleason, co-owner of the store.

“I didn't have my eyes focused towards the road. I was looking towards the front door and we heard an explosion."

Workers thought it was a vehicle crashing into the building off State Route 940, but then they looked around and saw it...a deer right in the middle of the store after jumping through the window.

"At first we all started to walk towards the deer because we thought it was hurt," added Gleason.

The young buck wasn't hurt, but got up and started wandering around the store.

"We were worried that he was going to do a lot more damage, kicking and knocking some paint over. But we were lucky he didn't."

After circling the store, the deer used the main exit to run into the woods.

It’s been the talk of the town.

"Lot of phone calls, a lot of text messages, people laughing,” said Gleason. “But it's gone over well, and we're glad the deer didn't get hurt."

Workers say they have had a bear come into the store once before, but it left without damaging anything.

And it looks like the paint store didn't have what this deer needed either.

"He didn't buy anything. He just window shopped."
