Family wants justice for brutal killing of young woman

READING, Pa. - The family of a young Reading woman whose body was found burned along a road near Allentown just two days after Christmas wants justice for her brutal killing.

The body of Jennifer Velez-Negron, 26, was discovered badly burned on Dec. 27 in a wooded area off Chestnut Hill Road in Salisbury Twp., Lehigh Co.

She couldn't be formally identified until Thursday, officials said.

"Fingerprints could not be used. Dental records were not available. We had to wait until we could come with family and do the DNA samples and testing," said Scott Grim, the Lehigh County coroner, who ruled her death a homicide.

Velez-Negron's younger sister, Yesenia Velez, spoke with 69 News about her sister's brutal death.

"I don't know why they did that to her," said Velez, who added that her older sister was a kind-hearted woman.

"She would always look out for me and my kids. She helped me a lot with them," said Velez.

Velez-Negron, the mother of three children, was living with a friend in Salisbury Township, her sister said.

The night before she found out about her sister's death, Velez said she had a vivid dream about her.

"She was asking me for help. She was stretching her hand, her hands and saying to help her, and I was trying to help her, but she was gone little by little," said Velez. "She was gone, and I couldn't help her, and my dad woke me up."

Velez said her sister recently lost her job and was stressed trying to find ways to support her children.

"She used to talk to me, and now I have no one to talk to, and it's hard for me because she left me here," said Velez, who added that her family is having trouble paying funeral expenses.
