Bomb scare in Allentown

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Some workers in downtown Allentown got a bit of excitement Wednesday morning.

Police investigated a report of a suspicious backpack in downtown Allentown.

The call came in around 9 a.m. about an unattended backpack in the area of Hamilton and Church streets.

Fire department and bomb squad members arrived on the scene.

Some workers in the downtown area were asked to shelter in place and move away from windows. No injuries have been reported.

Hamilton Street was closed in the area of Church Street for more than an hour.

According to police, the bag was determined to be harmless and full of everyday items in the bag, including shoes.

The bag was safely detonated according to a 69News crew at the scene.
