Crews battle two-alarm fire in Reading

READING, Pa. - A 2-alarm fire damaged a vacant row home in Reading.

The fire was reported shortly before 5 p.m. Monday at 645 N. Ninth St.

Initial reports from the scene were that flames were shooting from the windows of the home.

The chief on the scene quickly struck a second alarm, bringing volunteer firefighters in from suburban companies and putting several others on standby to respond, if needed.

Residents of neighboring homes were evacuated for fear the fire might spread. There were no reports of injuries.
