WEST READING, Pa. - A woman has died after a freak accident involving a flying road sign on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
Emily Morris died at Reading Hospital on Monday, two days after she suffered head injuries in the freak accident, the Berks County coroner's office said.
An eastbound box truck's mirror clipped the construction sign on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, about a mile west of the Reading interchange, in East Cocalico Twp., Lancaster Co. around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, sending the sign into the air, state police said.
The sign then pierced the windshield of Morris' westbound Volkswagen Passat and struck her in the head, causing her to lose control of her car, travel down an embankment and land in a ditch, state police said.
