Former Philadelphia priest charged with sexually abusing altar boy

Rev. Robert Brennan arrested in Maryland

PHILADELPHIA - A Roman Catholic priest has been arrested and accused of sexually assaulting an altar boy, officials said Thursday.

Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams announced the arrest Thursday of the Rev. Robert Brennan.

According to WPVI, Williams said the alleged abuse happened between 1998 and 2001 at the Resurrection of Our Lord Church in Northeast Philadelphia when Brennan, now 75, was an assistant pastor there.

The victim came forward in January 2013 and reported the incidents to officials at the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, Williams said.

WPVI reports that Williams said Brennan was arrested in Maryland and is now being held there pending extradition to Philadelphia.

Brennan faces charges of rape, deviate sexual intercourse and other offenses.
