Fulton Bank robbed in downtown Reading

Search led to arrest of suspect about an hour after holdup

READING, Pa. - An intense search by police led to a quick arrest in the robbery of a bank in downtown Reading on Friday.

A suspect was nabbed shortly before 6 p.m., about an hour after the robbery of the Fulton Bank in the 200 block of North 5th Street in center city, police said.

Police have not yet released any information about the holdup.

Police haven't said whether Friday's holdup is related to the robbery of the Citizens Bank in the 800 block of Lancaster Avenue in southwest Reading on Monday.

The robber in that holdup handed a teller a note stating he had a weapon and demanding money, said police, adding that no weapon was actually seen.

The Citizens Bank robber was described as a black or Hispanic man in his 20s or 30s with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, a black and green hat and sunglasses.

Anyone with information about that holdup can call Crime Alert Berks County at 877-373-9913. A cash reward of up to $5,000 is offered for information that leads to an arrest.
