Funeral set for officer killed in wrong-way crash on I-95 in Philadelphia

Driver arraigned in hospital on 3rd degree murder, DUI charges

PHILADELPHIA - Funeral services are set for a Philadelphia police officer who was killed in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 95.

Viewings are scheduled for Thursday and Friday for Ofc. Brian Lorenzo, followed by a funeral at 11 a.m. Friday,

Lorenzo was off-duty but still in uniform on his Highway Patrol motorcycle when he was hit Sunday morning by a driver going south in the northbound lanes. The 23-year veteran died at the scene.

While the driver, John Leck Jr., remains hospitalized, the 48-year-old Levittown man was arraigned Tuesday on charges of third degree murder, homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence, involuntary manslaughter and related offenses.

A preliminary hearing is set for July 25.

Lorenzo was married with three children.

Mayor Michael Nutter ordered city flags lowered to half-staff for the next month in Lorenzo's honor.
