Hamels named Opening Day starter; Manuel says he's not done

It was a newsworthy day at Phillies spring training in Clearwater on Thursday.

First, Charlie Manuel told the Associated Press that he will not retire after this season.

Manuel, 69, is the team's all-time winningest manager, but his contract is up after this year.

Former IronPigs manager Ryne Sandberg is also on his staff for this first time, waiting in the wings as the apparent manager-in-waiting.

Later in the day, the Phillies officially announced that Cole Hamels will be the team's Opening Day start on April 1 in Atlanta.

It will be Hamels' first career Opening Day start, and it breaks Roy Halladay's streak of 10 consecutive Opening Day starts.
