Hector Pimental charged with attempted homicide in shooting that led to standoff

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - One man is facing criminal charges in connection with a shooting in Allentown last week.

Police said Hector Pimental of Allentown is charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and persons not to possess firearms in the incident June 17 near Gordon and Pine streets in the city, which ended up in a standoff with police.

Several people were evacuated from the building.

According to court papers, Pimental, also known as "Tio," argued with Derick Smith inside a house at 944 Pine Street.

Witnesses told police that Pimental fired a round from a black rifle inside the home, and Smith fled the residence.

Pimental chased Smith outside and fired two or three more shots in Smith's direction,, then returned to the house, police said.

Pimental then allegedly tried to cover a bullet hole in the wall of the house with toothpaste, then went into the basement, police said.

Police found Smith in the 900 block of Gordon Street.

Pimental is being held on $500,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is set for Tuesday at 2:45 p.m.
