Investigators search for cause of Philly building collapse

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - As the search for survivors continues questions are emerging about the the condition of the building that collapsed in center city Philadelphia Wednesday morning.

Officials are currently looking into whether the building's inspections were all up to date.

A little after 8:00 people could only look in shock as a second dead body was pulled from the rubble at the site of this building collapse in center city Philadelphia.

The building was in the process of being demolished when it collapsed.

"Oh.  It's terrible," said Brian Robbins.  "People were in the Salvation Army Thrift Store trying to help people donating clothes, and the next thing you know the building comes down. You never know what could happen at any moment in time."

Officials say a permit was issued for the demolition back in February but authorities were tight lipped on whether all of the building's inspections were up to date.

"The matter is still under investigation and we are taking a look at all inspections that were done prior to the collapse," said L&I Commissioner Carlton Williams.

Meanwhile, folks like Estella Reyes searched for loved ones.  She says not sure if her friend is one of the people still unaccounted for.

She says she's been calling but has received no answer.

"I'm concerned, because it's a lot of people work in this area," she said.

Meanwhile, passersby say this is something they will never forget.
