Jogger killed in multi-vehicle accident

LIMERICK TWP., Pa. - Police in Montgomery County are investigating a deadly crash involving a pedestrian.

Merinda Thompson, 40, of Royersford, was killed Monday afternoon, officials said.

It happened around 2:45 in the 400 block of N. Lewis Road in Limerick Township.

Police said Thompson was jogging northbound along the southbound side of the roadway.  The car that was traveling north on Lewis. when it crossed over into the southbound lane and then partially off the road when it hit Thompson, police said.

The vehicle continued on and hit a utility pole before stopping, police said.

She was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

The 18-year-old male driver of the vehicle suffered minor injuries and was taken to Paoli Hospital.

Police said they've obtained a blood sample from the driver, and took his cell phone. According to WPVI, police are working under the assumption that the driver was distracted when he hit the jogger.

Police are still investigating.
