Wendell Barrett arrested for attacking girlfriend

Allentown man cut her with a "cleaver style knife"

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Wendell Barrett of Allentown has been jailed for threatening to kill his girlfriend with a "cleaver style knife" late Tuesday night.

Police report Barrett struck his girlfriend and cut her inside an apartment in the 800 block of S. Filmore Street. They say he "came toward the victim, swinging the knife at her in an attempt to harm her."

Allentown police were dispatched to the apartment at 11:22 p.m. Tuesday.

The woman told police she was assaulted by Barrett, who cut her finger and chest with the cleaver. She said he also struck her more than once both with an open hand and a closed fist. She also told police she repeatedly grabbed her neck and dragged her by the hair.

The woman had lacerations on her upper chest and finger as well as bruise marks on her neck and chest and other small scrapes and cuts to her hands, arms and neck.

The 38-year-old Barrett was not at the apartment when police arrived. He resides in the 200 block of S. 13th Street in Allentown.

Barrett was arrested Wednesday morning and sent to Lehigh County Prison.

He has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment.
