1 person killed in Northampton County motorcycle crash

HANOVER TWP., Pa. - One person was killed in an accident involving a motorcycle Sunday afternoon in Northampton County.

It happened around 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Route 512 and Jaindl Boulevard in Hanover Township.

Police say a Ford Explorer traveling southbound on Route 512 failed to yield and attempted to make a left turn onto Jaindl Boulevard.

That's when the motorcycle - traveling northbound on Route 512 - crashed into the passenger side of the SUV.

Both vehicles were passing through a green light, according to police.

The motorcyclist, Scott Petrie, 56, of New Hope, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The coroner determined Petrie died from blunt force trauma and ruled the manner of death as accidental.

The driver of the Explorer suffered minor injuries and was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg for treatment.

Police say summary traffic citations will be issued to the driver.

An accident reconstruction team responded to the scene to investigate.

Police say the crash remains under investigation.
