2 charged in Wind Gap cell phone store robbery, kidnapping headed to trial

VIDEO: Cell phone crime spree...

WIND GAP, Pa. - Two men charged with robbing a cell phone store in Wind Gap are headed to trial.

Gregory Lewis and Vaughn Felix were in court Monday for preliminary hearings on charges including robbery, kidnapping and false imprisonment for the armed robbery of a Verizon store in February.

A Northampton County judge found there is enough evidence against the two, including surveillance video, cell phone records and finding the clothes they were wearing the night of the alleged crime, to go to trial.

Police also found two cell phones stolen from the store when they searched one suspect's vehicle.

The affidavit of probable cause says when the two men went into the store, they asked the clerk if he was alone. The clerk said yes, and one of the men bound the clerk's hands behind his back with a zip tie.

The two men then proceeded to ask the clerk for the combination to the safe where cell phones were stored, and stole more than $36,000 worth of phones, $1,200 in cash, and $2,000 in accessories.

Police said the men put the victim in the bathroom with the lights off and checked on him periodically while they loaded up the stolen phones.

When the clerk didn't hear the men in the store anymore, he escaped and ran across the street to the gas station with his hands still bound, where workers called 911.

According to the paperwork, police caught a break in the case with more surveillance videos and cell phone tower records for the area.

Records showed that both Lewis and Felix were near the store on the date in question. Records also show that Lewis was using an iPhone stolen from the Bethlehem Township AT&T store on January 5th.

Police also say they found and matched the clothing in the surveillance video as well.

The Wind Gap robbery was one of five at cell phone stores in our area during that time period. The other four are still under investigation, as is the murder of a man who worked at a Forks Township store that was robbed.

Lewis and Felix will be back in court in June.
