28-year-old man identified as one victim in Allentown shooting

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Autopsies are scheduled for Wednesday morning on two men who were gunned down in broad daylight in Allentown Tuesday.

The Lehigh County coroner said the victims are Richard Vera Jr., 28, of Allentown and a 24-year-old man who hasn't yet been identified.

Allentown police said the double shooting happened at the intersection of North 4th and Washington streets just after noon on Tuesday.

Both men were taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest where they were pronounced dead.

Investigators say the men's deaths are homicides.

The intersection of N. 4th and Washington was roped off as a crime scene for much of the afternoon.

Detectives went door-to-door talking with neighbors.

An armored police vehicle and heavily armed officers could be seen surrounding a building near where the shooting happened.

Officers broke down a door and went inside but police say there is no word on suspects.
