Sands incident of child endangerment

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Three children were found locked in a car in the Sands Casino parking lot in Bethlehem on Wednesday.

Sands security notified police around 10:15 a.m. of a one-year-old, five-year-old and an eight-year-old who were locked inside a Chevy Envoy, according to Bethlehem police Chief Mark DiLuzio.

Using surveillance video, they found the father of the children, Maurice Cook, 30, of Easton, on the casino floor playing blackjack.

Cook was escorted to the car and arrested for three counts of endangering the welfare of children and three counts of reckless endangerment.

The children were evaluated at the scene. They had no injuries, but they were hungry, according to DiLuzio.

The Sands Casino bought them pizza and drinks while they waited for a relative to come get them. They are currently with Cook's brother.

Cook is being held at Northampton County Prison on $30,000 bail.
