Alleged assault lands trio of brothers in jail

Police said sibling argument ended with assault

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - A trio of brothers is facing assault charges after a sibling dispute ended with an alleged attack on mom and her boyfriend.

Allentown police charged Taurus M. Ramsey Jr., 19, Chris Cerrato, 21, and Jose D. Hernandez, 18, with assault and harassment in connection to the New Year’s Day fracas. District Judge Joseph Pochron arraigned all three men Monday night, setting bail for each at $5,000.

Police were dispatched to a home in the 600 block of West Cedar Street shortly after 3 p.m. Monday for a reported domestic assault involving injuries. Police said the victims, Darnell Drake and Sarah Shuey, sustained bruises and abrasions and Shuey suffered a cut on the top of her head.

Shuey told police that Cerrato and Shuey were arguing on the third floor, while Hernandez attempted to mediate. When Drake – Shuey’s boyfriend – intervened and told them to stop fighting, the three allegedly turned on him, according to court records.

Shuey reported that she tried to separate her boys from Drake, and that the two retreated to a second-floor bathroom, where they locked themselves away, according to records.

Police allege Ramsey, Cerrato and Hernandez proceeded to break down the door and assault Drake with a bat, a lamp, pieces from the broken door and their bare hands. Authorities said Shuey suffered a cut on her hand and she tried to break up the fight.

All three were sent to Lehigh County Jail after failing to post bail. There next court dates are preliminary hearings scheduled for Jan. 8.
