Alleged gunman makes off cash, pack of gum from CVS

Police charge teen get-away driver as an adult

WILSON, Pa. - A Slate Belt man and his teen accomplice are facing robbery charges in connection with the alleged gunpoint stickup of a drugstore that saw the gunman make off with more than $700 and a pack of chewing gum.

Wilson Borough police charged Ezekial L. Dingle and Allen H. Oren Jr. with robbery, conspiracy, theft and receiving stolen property following their arrests early Wednesday morning less than a half hour after the holdup. The 21-year-old Dingle faces an additional charge of committing a crime with a firearm.

The 17-year-old Oren has been charged as an adult. District Judge Richard Yetter arraigned both suspected robbers Wednesday afternoon, setting bail at $175,000 each.

Borough police were dispatched to the CVS at 1520 Northampton St. about 1:15 a.m. to investigate an armed robbery report. A store clerk told authorities that a man wearing sneakers, a gray hooded sweatshirt with stripes, blue jeans and a red bandana covering his face pulled a gun and demanded money from the registers, according to court records.

A store manager opened two registers and handed over about $755. On his way out, the gunman grabbed a pack of strawberry Orbit gum. The robbery was caught on store surveillance, and area police were given a description of the thief.

Easton police stopped a Buick Encore about 15 minutes later at St. John and Cooper streets. Oren, of Washington Township, Northampton County, was behind the wheel, and Dingle, of Bangor, in the passenger seat.

Police said Dingle had a red bandana around his neck and that a gray, striped sweatshirt was in plain view on the backseat. After taking Dingle and Oren into custody, police said they found a CVS bag full of cash behind the driver’s seat and a pack of strawberry Orbit gum in the passenger door handle.

Authorities recovered a black SCCY 9mm handgun from Dingle, who allegedly uttered, “I’m going to be doing a long stretch for this,” according to records.

Investigators later questioned Oren in the company of his mother. The teen told police that he and Dingle were “driving around,” when Dingle told him to stop at the CVS, according to court records. Oren said he parked along 15th Street until Dingle allegedly came running through the parking lot with a bag of money, police said.

Dingle allegedly jumped into the car and yelled, “I think we got some money. Go,” according to records.

Both men were sent to Northampton County Prison after failing to post bail. Their next court dates are preliminary hearings scheduled for May 15.
