Alleged parking spat ends with shots fired

Police say suspect fired two shots, stole a purse

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Police say that a parking argument allegedly prompted an Allentown man to fire two shots into a woman’s car and steal her purse.

Allentown police charged Jessie Crawford, of the 700 block of North 10th Street, with reckless endangerment, a weapons charge and related offenses in connection to the early-morning incident. District Judge Jacob Hammond arraigned the 41-year-old Sunday afternoon, setting bail at $100,000.

Police were dispatched to the 900 block of Russell Street shortly after 6:30 a.m. Sunday to investigate a report of shots fired into a car. When officers arrived, they detained Crawford, who was trying to leave the area, according to court records.

The victim told police that Crawford allegedly fired two shots into her Mitsubishi Outlander after an argument over parking, according to records. He then proceeded to steal her purse and keys out of the car.

Court records do not specify what prompted the parking argument.

Video surveillance allegedly caught Crawford shooting the car and tossing the gun and victim’s purse. Officers said they found a stolen .22 caliber Phoenix Arms in the area along with the purse. Police allege they found the victim’s car keys on Crawford.

A records check revealed that Crawford does not have a permit to carry a firearm and that a prior felony drug conviction prevented him from possessing a firearm.

Authorities charged Crawford with illegal possession of a firearm, receiving stolen property, carrying a firearm without a license, reckless endangerment, theft, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. He failed to post bail and was sent to Lehigh County Jail to await a preliminary hearing scheduled for Dec. 11.
