Allentown community holds 'stop the violence' event

VIDEO: Stop the Violence group in...

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Allentown community is coming together to help Stop the Violence among the city's young population.

Organizers took to the streets Thursday night to show solidarity in the wake of the recent shooting.

Participants say it's not just this homicide that's inspiring them to act but it's all the others that have happened this year and in the past.

Organizers pledged to have rallies each week to show young residents they are loved and they have a bright future

"We want to be the leaders and we want to reach out to these kids to make sure their lives are different," said Jessica Lee Ortiz, community organizer.

Organizers say they are planning a large event in December and hope to get community leaders to mentor kids in Allentown.
