Allentown EMS crews honored

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - It's national EMS week and emergency crews in Allentown are receiving a special honor for their efforts to help heart attack patients.

The American Heart Association awarded Allentown emergency crews with the Gold Plus Award for its use of advanced EKGs in the field.

Officials say the new technology lets doctors and hospitals know valuable information about the patient before the ambulance arrives.

“It's going to take that extra time in the hospital for them to get an EKG and for them to read that EKG. It also, depending on where that heart attack is, there's certain medications we may give or we may not want to give,” explained EMS Manager Eric Gratz.

Gratz says it is always nice to be recognized and adds emergency services crews take pride in being ready at any time.
