Allentown man accused of raping 11-year-old girl

Police said assaults happened in his home

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - An Allentown man is facing child rape charges after allegedly sexually assaulting a young girl, who was a guest in his home.

Authorities charged John M. Achey Sr. with rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and indecent assault of a person younger than 13 years old. District Judge Karen Devine arraigned the 46-year-old Saturday afternoon, setting bail at $100,000 with a 10 percent cash option.

The Allentown Police Department on Dec. 21 received a complaint of a possible child sexual abuse case involving an 11-year-old girl, who was a guest at Achey’s Allentown home along with her mother, according to court records.

When an investigator interviewed the child in January, she reported Achey allegedly performed sex acts on her, according to records. The sex abuse occurred in 2015 and 2016 when the girl was between 10 and 11 years old.

During a follow-up interview with police, Achey allegedly admitted to assaulting the girl and said she also performed a sex act on him, according to authorities. He also confirmed the assaults  took place in his home.

Achey failed to post bail and was sent to Lehigh County Jail to await a preliminary hearing tentatively scheduled for Feb. 13.
