Allentown man allegedly beats woman on car ride from club to home

Police said he also attacked her inside her house

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - An Allentown man is facing assault charges in connection with an attack that police allege started in a car outside a nightclub and continued inside the victim’s home.

Tyrone A. Neal is facing strangulation, simple assault and harassment charges for the early-morning attack Saturday in Allentown. District Judge David Howells arraigned the 24-year-old Saturday, setting bail at $25,000.

Allentown police responded to a Lawrence Street home about 5:40 a.m. Saturday to investigate a reported domestic assault. Officers arrived to find Neal sitting outside the house, where he allegedly admitted to punching the victim, according to court records.

Court records do not specify the nature of the relationship between Neal and the woman.

The victim told police that Neal first punched her in the face, while they were in a car near the Catch 22 nightclub, according to records. He then allegedly started choking her with one hand, leaving her gasping for air.

After the pair drove to the victim’s house so Neal could retrieve his belongings, he allegedly hit her in the face about five more times and pushed her into the snow as she ran from the car, according to records. The assault allegedly continued inside the house with Neal forcing his way in, shoving the victim to the ground and hitting her in the head.

Authorities observed the victim’s injuries, including a swollen face and fat lip.

Neal, of the 600 block of Union Street, failed to post bail and was sent to Lehigh County Jail to await a preliminary hearing tentatively scheduled for Feb. 21.
