Allentown Tilghman Street Bridge project postponed again

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The city of Allentown says its scheduled start date to rehabilitate the Tilghman Street Bridge has once again been postponed.

The construction was set to begin Jan. 17, but cold temperatures have pushed it back a second time.

The city says cold temperatures pose an issue for the removal of existing pavement markings and for painting new ones. Therefore, reconfiguration of the existing intersections and signal re-timing isn't possible.

According to a news release from the city, the contractor does not have a beginning date. The project is weather dependent.

When the rehabilitation does begin, Tilghman Street will be closed. A detour will utilize Front Street, American Parkway, North Bradford Street and Dauphin Street.
