Andre Watley arraigned for Bethlehem Twp. beating

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Andre Watley, charged in the brutal beating of a man five years ago, was arraigned Monday before Magisterial District Judge Joseph K. Barner of Bethlehem.

The defendant's bail has been set at $100,000 and Watley would have to post the full amount to get out of jail. But he's already in prison on unrelated charges.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for 11:45 a.m. March 10 before

Watley was one of two men arrested by police  in Bethlehem Township on Jan. 31.

They were charged with beating a man in a February 2009 attack in the 1900 block of Clermont Street.

The duo had the victim strip naked and then sexually assaulted him with a broomstick, according to police.

Police recently reopened the case and were able to make the arrests shortly before the statute of limitations expired.

Charges against Watley include multiple counts of forcible compulsion, conspiracy to commit forcible compulsion, sexual assault, conspiracy to commit sexual assault, aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, terroristic threats, conspiracy to commit terroristic threats, serious bodily harm inflicted during a robbery, conspiracy to inflict that serious bodily harm and robbery.

Watley has been an inmate in a prison in Dallas, Pa., on unrelated charges.
