April proclaimed 'fair housing month'

Lehigh Valley leaders are coming together to take a stand against housing discrimination.

At a news conference Monday afternoon, officials with North Penn Legal Services presented a proclamation designating April as "fair housing month."

The document is signed by the mayors of Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton along with the Lehigh and Northampton county executives.

The proclamation comes nearly a year after a study was released by the Fair Housing Council of Suburban Philadelphia. It found that Realtors were steering white home buyers away from Allentown while urging minorities to move into the city.

Following the proclamation, North Penn hosted a fair housing training event that was open to the public.
