Argument over finances leads son to assault mother, police say

Brother who tried to step in also assaulted

BATH, Pa. - A Northampton County man is facing assault charges after witnesses told police he allegedly hit his mother and assaulted his brother when he tried to intervene.

Colonial Regional police charged Wisdom M. Cash, of West Main Street in Bath, with simple assault, disorderly conduct and two counts of harassment following the alleged assault Tuesday afternoon. District Judge Nancy Matos-Gonzalez arraigned him early Wednesday morning, setting bail at $5,000 with a 10 percent cash option if approved by Northampton County pre-trial services.

Police were dispatched to the area of the 300 block of West Main Street in the borough to investigate a reported assault. Witnesses told police that a man later identified as Cash punched a woman several times in the head and body, according to court records. He then allegedly punched a juvenile who intervened and threw him to the ground before assaulting the woman again.

Witnesses said the two managed to escape, and Cash ran into a home in the 300 block of West Main Street, returning a few minutes later with an armload of clothing. He reportedly dropped the clothes and took a run at the victims, but another woman intervened, police said. Cash and the woman then drove away before police arrived.

The victim said she and her son had been arguing over household expenses, which led to the assault. Police said both victims sustained visible injuries.

Court records do not indicate when police apprehended Cash, but he was arraigned about 5:45 a.m. Wednesday. Cash failed to post bail and was sent to Northampton County Prison to await a preliminary hearing scheduled for May 17.
