Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, the start of a season of prayer and penance for many Christians.

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the 40-day season of Lent, which leads up to Easter.

Many mark the beginning of the Lenten season by getting ashes on their forehead as a sign of baptismal renewal.

Churches in the Lehigh Valley have been holding Ash Wednesday masses.
