Driver killed in fiery crash at I-78 toll booth

WILLIAMS TWP., Pa. - At least one person was killed in an accident that caused a tractor trailer and an SUV to burst into flames in Northampton County.

The accident occurred in the toll booth in the westbound lanes of Interstate 78 in Williams Township, at the Pennsylvania line, around 8 a.m. Monday, according to police.

I-78 is shut down on the New Jersey side, starting at Exit 3, police said.

The driver of an SUV was paying a toll when the tractor trailer came through the booth, hitting the car and pushing it off to the side, police said. Both vehicles caught fire.

There was at least one fatality, but since authorities can't access the SUV, officials are not sure if anyone else was in the car, the coroner said.

Neither the truck driver nor any toll takers were injured.
