Attorneys say cell phone store robbery suspects could face murder charges

Police continue to investigate string of robberies

EASTON, Pa. - The defense attorneys for two men charged in connection to a series of cell phone store robberies said Thursday that it’s possible their clients could also face homicide charges.

Vaughn Felix and Gregory Lewis were in Northampton County Court Thursday for their formal arraignments on a host of charges, including robbery, theft, kidnapping, receiving stolen property and conspiracy.

Police charged the pair in connection to a series of five cell phone store robberies. Authorities are also investigating the shooting death of Michael Davis, an employee at a Forks Township Verizon store who was killed outside his apartment. The Forks Township store was robbed in October 2016.

Investigators have not charged anyone in connection with Davis's death.

According to The Morning Call, Lewis’s defense attorney, James Brose, said in court Thursday that it’s possible the Northampton County District Attorney’s Office could file homicide charges against his client.

When contacted by 69 News, Brose said later that there’s no guarantee Lewis will face homicide charges and acknowledged he shouldn’t have mentioned the possibility of pending charges in open court during his client’s formal arraignment.

“The D.A.’s office hasn’t done anything official,” Brose said. “We’ll be proceeding as though he is faced with the charges that he is facing, and we’ll see if anything comes down the pike.”

Defense attorney Brian Monahan said he believes Felix is a suspect in the murder investigation and that prosecutors will charge his client in Davis’s death. He declined to elaborate on why he suspects Felix could face homicide charges.

Felix’s trial on the robbery charges is tentatively scheduled to begin Sept. 5, and Monahan is due in county court Friday for a pre-trial conference.

Assistant District Attorney Patricia Fuentes-Mulqueen said only that the robberies and homicide remain under investigation and that no additional charges have been filed.
