Balloons float to the sky to remember Ella

COPLAY, Pa. - Balloons filled the sky in part of Lehigh County Tuesday night to remember a young girl who touched countless people's lives.

Ella Grace Luchansky died last year from a rare childhood cancer.

Family and friends gathered in Coplay Tuesday for a balloon release in honor of Ella

Tuesday would have been her sixth birthday.

During her short life, Ella inspired people as far away as California, where a singer who heard Ella's story was moved to write a song about her.

Ella's family was touched by the large number of people who came out Tuesday.

"One of the biggest things when you lose a child is that you worry about them being forgotten. Just knowing people remember her and can support us and can still come out her after her death is a huge, huge help," said Ella's mom, Jennifer Kresge

The family continues to honor Ella's memory by staying active in causes benefiting the Pediatric Cancer Foundation and other organizations.
