BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Several Lehigh University football players are in trouble and one is facing assault charges after witnesses say he kicked another student in the face during a fight outside of a local bar.
The affidavit of probable cause shows the 911 call was received at 12:44 Wednesday morning.
The victim was a Lehigh University student who was having drinks at Leon's Bar on East Fifth Street in Bethlehem.
"After he left, there was four Lehigh football students that came around the corner. There was an altercation that happened and the kid was violently beat up," said Joseph Bianco, owner of Leon's Bar.
The call for help actually came from an employee in Leon's.
"My door guy physically seen the student getting kicked in the face and he called 911," added Bianco. "And actually physically went out and risked his own life to help the student in the middle of the street."
"We were walking back last night, later on and we saw a ton of cops here," said Eli Facenda, a student who lives across the street. "We kind of got the story from a few neighbors saying there was a big fight going on between some students."
Police records show when officers arrived, Russhon Phillips, 19, was running from the scene.
Phillips is listed as a sophomore defensive back on the football team.
Police arrested Phillips and charged him with assault and say charges are pending for a second person.
A friend of the victim was cited for disorderly conduct and public drunkenness for starting the fight, according to police.
Some living in the neighborhood are still wondering why the fight started.
"It's kind of all just rumors right now," added Facenda.
The owner of Leon's Bar says the football players were not patrons of the bar and he hopes the fight that took place doesn't give his place a bad reputation.
