Bethlehem gas leak forces evacuation near Route 412 in Bethlehem

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - UGI and Bethlehem firefighters responded to a gas leak at Hellertown Road and Crest Avenue Tuesday night.

According to fire crews on scene, 11 houses were evacuated in this neighborhood near Route 412.

They were allowed to re-enter by 8 p.m., according to UGI.

The incident was reported around 6:40 p.m.

According to UGI, a non-UGI contractor was completing work on Crest Avenue when the gas main was severed.
