Bethlehem man charged in Fountain Hill homicide

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - A Bethlehem man has been charged with criminal homicide and two other felonies in the Fountain Hill August shooting.

District Attorney Jim Martin of Lehigh County announced the charges Friday against Emanuel Lopez, 29, for allegedly shooting and killing 26-year-old Johnathan Diaz..

The incident took place Aug. 28 shortly before 9 p.m. when officers arrived to a reported shooting in the 900 block of Seneca Street and found a victim suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim, Diaz, was transported to St. Luke's University Health Network campus in Fountain Hill where he was pronounced dead. The Lehigh County Coroner ruled his death a homicide. The cause of death was a gunshot wound to the torso.

Through a thorough investigation, which included interviews with witnesses and examinations of video and hospital records, as well as a DNA analysis of blood samples, it was determined that Lopez allegedly shot and killed Diaz.

Prior to being charged Friday, District Attorney Martin said Lopez was being held in Lehigh County Jail on a warrant from El Paso, Texas for a parole violation.

Lopez is set to be arraigned Friday at Central Booking.
