Bethlehem man in possession of child pornography faces charges

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - A Lehigh County man is facing child pornography charges after investigators allegedly discovered him sharing child porn on-line.

Bethlehem police charged Steven M. Mickley with single felony counts of child pornography and disseminating child pornography following an investigation that began in February. Senior District Judge Rod Beck arraigned the 47-year-old Tuesday night. Mickley was released on $50,000 unsecured bail.

A Bethlehem police detective in February began the investigation in to the sharing of child porn on the BitTorrent peer-to-peer file-sharing system. Over a 10-day span, the investigator downloaded three files that contained two videos and 26 photos, according to court records.

Authorities said the children appeared to be between the ages of 8 and 16 and were engaged in sex acts with adults or other children, according to records.

The investigator tracked the IP address to Mickley’s Third Avenue home in Bethlehem.

Police on April 4 executed a search warrant on Mickley’s home, when he allegedly admitted to using the BitTorrent network to secure child porn. He allegedly told authorities that he would delete the videos or pictures once he finished watching them.

A search of his laptop allegedly turned up the software used to trade child porn and the three files the investigator downloaded in February. Authorities said they also found an external hard drive that contained videos and pictures of child, including some that appeared to be toddlers.

Mickley’s next court date is a preliminary hearing scheduled for April 25.
