Bethlehem man pleads guilty to unlawful contact with minor

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Scott Kinney, 53 pleaded guilty to unlawful contact with a minor, attempted involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, and attempted statutory sexual assault.

Kinney, of Bethlehem, was initially charged in December for arranging to have sex with teenagers he met online. Kinney was one of five men charged.

In each case, an investigator was monitoring an undercover online profile that purported to be a 14-year-old. Authorities said four men allegedly contacted what they thought was a teenage girl and arranged meetings to have sex, according to court records.

Investigators allege they told the men several times they were communicating with a 14-year-old, but they continued messaging with the child and set up dates, times and locations to meet. Court records show the men sent sexually explicit messages of varying degrees. Kinney allegedly asked the girl to meet him at the door wearing underwear and a T-shirt.

Upon his arrest, Kinney allegedly told authorities that it “was wrong and illegal and that he was bored and made terrible choices,” according to records.

The Pennsylvania Sexual Offenders Assessment Board will now perform an assessment of Kinney to determine if he is a sexually violent predator.

Sentencing is scheduled for June.
