Bimbo Bakeries to close Harrisburg facility

The nation's largest baking company is continuing to shift more of its operations to Lehigh County, eliminating dozens of jobs in the process.

Bimbo Bakeries USA says it will shut its Stroehman facility in Harrisburg later this month, leaving about 90 people without jobs.

A company spokesperson says production from Harrisburg will be shifted to bakeries in Upper Macungie Township and Hazleton.

Bimbo had already cut more than 60 jobs at the Harrisburg site earlier this year.

Last year, the company closed its longtime plant in Wilson Borough, Northampton County.

Nearly 80 jobs were eliminated in that move.
