Black bear spotted roaming Leopard country

The bear was first seen early Friday morning

EASTON, Pa. - A wayward bear was spotted roaming across the Lafayette College campus in Easton Friday morning.

Lafayette police said the black bear was spotted about 6:40 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. around Skillman Library and Colton Chapel. The bear was also reported near the Acopian Engineering Center headed toward Bushkill Drive.

Campus police issued an emergency alert Friday morning to all faculty and students.

The college notified the Pennsylvania Game Commission before the bear was last seen running off campus toward Easton Cemetery.

A game commission spokesman said a game official was on the campus for a few hours, but could find the bear. It's likely the bear left the area unable to find food or a mate, according to the game commission.

The bear could surface again somewhere in the area, but it's unlikely it will show up again at Lafayette.
