Burning body found in dumpster outside Bethlehem apartment complex

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - A police investigation is underway in Bethlehem after a burning body was found in a dumpster outside of an apartment complex.

Around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, someone in the Parkhurst Apartments called the landlord to report a dumpster fire and that a person may be inside.

Bethlehem police were called to the scene and discovered a male body burning in the dumpster.

The coroner's office was on the scene in the area of Barbara and Nicholas streets around 5 a.m.

Police investigators and an arson dog were combing through the scene collecting evidence.

Bethlehem police said one person was taken into custody after making comments to police then fleeing, but it is not yet clear if that person was involved.

Investigators have not released many details, but did say it was likely an isolated event, and people living in the area should not be concerned about safety.

"It's very, very isolated...we don't believe there's any danger to the residents at the complex or the surrounding neighbors," said Capt. Anthony Leardi of the Bethlehem Police Department.

Police did not release any other details as to what happened or the man's identity.
