LOWER MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. - A Lehigh County man has thrown his hat into the ring for Lower Macungie Board of Commissioners.
Brian Higgins announced plans Monday to run for commissioner.
Higgins, a pharmaceutical sales executive, has lived in the township for nine years.
"Lower Macungie is starving for leaders that are interested in putting the needs of the citizens ahead of their own," Higgins said. "Unfortunately, over the past four years, our elected officials have failed to do just that. The consistent practice of excluding citizens whose ideas differ from those in power must end. Lower Macungie needs to be a community of inclusion for all. In addition, honesty and integrity must be restored to the Board of Commissioners through the practice of transparency in government. I will proactively seek out the needs of the public and not adopt the 'reactive' approach now in use."
Higgins said in a release that he made the decision to run after having spent the last seven years "interacting with thousands of constituents who are tired of the failures in their local government."
Three non-partisan township organizations have endorsed Higgins for the position: Lower Macungie Township Citizens for Change, Friends for the Protection of LMT and Citizens for Strong Communities.
He's a graduate of Monmouth University and the married father of three boys.
