Bushkill Township girl receives letter from child predator

Police are warning parents to check the privacy settings of their child's social media accounts, after a local girl received a letter from a man who preyed on young girls across the country.

Bushkill Township Police posted Monday on its Facebook page that a resident reported her daughter received a letter last week from a man she did not know.

That man is Joseph Polin, 46, of Hazleton.

WBRE reports police were called to Polin's house last week regarding a social media threat, which led to a five-hour standoff and Polin taking his own life.

Detectives found Polin had been preying on girls, as young as 9-years-old, across the country and in China, England and Canada, through email, online and mail.

According to police, Polin would reach out to girls on the internet and mail letters to the them, describing in graphic detail what he wished to do to them sexually.

Bushkill Township police said on its Facebook page:

"You never know who may be reading, searching or examining your social media always, report suspicious activity to your local police department."
