Card skimming devices discovered at Lehigh County gas station

Customer's info used to make unathorized purchase

WEISENBERG TWP., Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a pair of credit card skimmers that were found at a Lehigh County gas station.

State police were dispatched to an Exxon gas station at 2298 Route 863 in Weisenberg Township about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday for a report of skimmers found on two gas pumps.

A skimming device steals credit card information when a card is inserted.

Investigators are unsure about who installed the skimmers or when it was done. Police believe the devices were on the pumps for about one month.

Police said credit card information gathered from a 61-year-old New Triopli man was used to make an unauthorized purchase as a different location.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the state police Fogelsville barracks at 610-395-1438.

State officials this summer announced a campaign to raise awareness about the scam, which is becoming more common.
