Case headed to trial for Kevin Esterly, man who ran off with Allentown teen

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The man accused of fleeing to Mexico with an Allentown teenager was due in court Wednesday, but he has waived the hearing.

Kevin Esterly's preliminary hearing was scheduled for Wednesday morning in Lehigh County, but the DA's office said Tuesday he waived the hearing. The case will head to trial unless Esterly pleads guilty.

Esterly is charged with felony counts of interference with custody of children and concealing the whereabouts of a child, and a misdemeanor charge of corruption of minors.

Authorities say he fled to Mexico with 16-year-old Amy Yu early in March.

A nationwide search was underway for the two for nearly two weeks before they were found at a resort in Mexico.

Esterly is in Lehigh County Prison on $500,000 bail. He is due back in court for a formal arraignment in June.
