Catty S.D. Superintendent receives 5-year deal

CATASAUQUA, Pa. - Catasauqua Area School District Superintendent, Robert Spengler, could have belted a line from The Who's rock classic Won't Get Fooled Again during Tuesday night's board of directors meeting.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
To comply with the law Spengler engaged in an eminence front and resigned before being rehired moments later by directors to a five-year pact that will make him the district's leader through 2019.

Terms of the deal were not announced during the meeting.

"I want to thank you for your confidence in me," Spengler told directors following the vote.

The 1984 Catasauqua graduate's previous contract began September 10, 2012 and by Commonwealth of Pennsylvania law superintendents are forbidden from renegotiating deals until the final year of the pact, hence his resignation Tuesday night.

"I'm unemployed," Spengler joked during the entire scenario.

One of the top priorities Spengler will lead will be the district's "1:1 Technology Initiative" that will equip all high school students with an 11-inch Apple MacBook Air device when the 2014-2015 school year commences in September.

During Tuesday night meeting, directors heard a progress report from principal David Ascani, who noted he will be sending a letter to parents Wednesday regarding a "MacBook rollout" session scheduled to begin with seniors whose last names begin with "A through L" on August 4th.
