Ceremony held for reopening of historic bridge

NORTH WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. - A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for the re-opening of the Game Preserve Road Covered Bridge, also called the Schlicher's Bridge, Thursday in North Whitehall Township.

The historic bridge leads to the Lehigh Valley Zoo but was closed back in 2009 for repairs.

"For the past four or five years visitors have taken a 20 minute detour to get to Lehigh Valley Zoo. Now that the bridge is open again we are so happy that those 20 minutes can be spent additionally inside the Lehigh Valley Zoo," said Alan Raisman, the development and marketing coordinator for Lehigh Valley Zoo.

Several zoo representatives were on hand for the celebration, including a giant penguin.
