Community center expansion on hold in Lower Macungie

Delay should only be for a few weeks.

L. MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. - Lower Macungie Township commissioners on Thursday tabled action on the approval of the community center expansion plan to allow time to finalize storm water and other land development issues.

The board felt another two weeks would not delay the project or jeopardize a $500,000 Keystone grant which will be used to expand the one-room library by more than 4,000 square feet.

Commissioners indicated they want all loose ends tied up before the plan goes to the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission.

Township Planning Director Sara Pandl said the expansion of the community center, located at 3450 Brookside Road, will add 19,000 square foot of space for a new gym, new restrooms, an enlarged receptions area and a parking lot.

The expanded library will include a large multipurpose room, new children’s wing, new restrooms and additional office and storage areas.

Construction is expected to be finished in November 2018. Last year the township floated a $7 million bond to finance the project.
