Congressman Dent, Senator Toomey support Robert Mueller appointment

VIDEO: Dent, Toomey comment on...

WASHINGTON - Congressman Charlie Dent said he thinks an independent investigation into possible Russian election tampering is necessary and predicted several days ago that Republicans may call for one.

Dent said he is satisfied with the choice of Robert Mueller to lead the investigation but would have preferred an independent investigation along the lines of the 9/11 commission.

On Wednesday, the Justice Department announced it is tapping former FBI Director Robert Mueller to oversee an investigation into allegations that Russia tampered in the 2016 presidential election.

Mueller served as FBI director for 12 years under President George W. Bush and President Barack Obama.
Now he will serve as special counsel for the investigation.

The appointment comes on the heels of the firing of former FBI Director James Comey as speculation swirls about interactions between the White House and the Kremlin.

"This is challenging… these distractions… disruptions are time consuming and quite frankly exhausting," said Rep. Charlie Dent (R-PA 15th.)

Senator Pat Toomey also expressed concern about the Trump administration and said in a statement, “I have every confidence that Robert Mueller will execute these responsibilities with integrity and professionalism. I look forward to reviewing the findings of Special Counsel Robert Mueller and the findings by the various House and Senate Committees investigating these issues.”
